The UNICEF Child-Friendly Schools Initiative aims to provide an equal opportunity for all children within a safe and nurturing environment. Teachers and caregivers are trained to recognize children’s emotional needs and to encourage them to express themselves without fear. In Cambodia, schools of this model reflect many of the dramatic improvements the country has enjoyed over a generation.

U.S. Fund for UNICEF eligible for $200K in funding from American Express

The U.S. Fund for UNICEF has been selected as a candidate for funding from American Express through Members Project®, a partnership between American Express and TakePart. A win in this current round of voting could mean $200,000 for UNICEF child-friendly projects in refugee and displaced persons camps around the world. On-line voting has begun and is open to anyone who has joined Members Project.

UNICEF High School Clubs - what a great way to start the school year

After receiving many requests from high school students who wanted to be involved with UNICEF in their schools, the UNICEF High School Club program was launched last year.
UNICEF High School Clubs affirm the power of young people to make a difference and help UNICEF save children's lives. Clubs are a youth-led initiative that partners with the U.S. Fund for UNICEF to educate, advocate, and fundraise on behalf of UNICEF's lifesaving work.

The UPS foundation awards UNICEF $2 million in financial and in-kind services through 2011

Today, the U.S. Fund for UNICEF announced a two-year, $1.25 million commitment by The UPS Foundation; bringing the organization’s total support for UNICEF to $2 million for 2010 and 2011, including $400,000 of cash and in-kind support for Haiti earthquake relief efforts. These gifts will support UNICEF's emergency preparedness and rapid response as well as to expand existing projects aimed at building the capacity of UNICEF and national counterparts in logistic activities.

Combination treatment reduces diarrheal deaths in India

UNICEF and IKEA are partnering to promote a new treatment for children with diarrhea, saving thousands of lives in India. Loss of essential nutrients from diarrhea leaves children vulnerable to attacks of pneumonia, malaria and other deadly diseases, but 88% of global deaths from diarrhea are entirely preventable.

On July 22, in the midst of a New York summer, we welcomed Al Brandel, Immediate Past Chairman of Lions Clubs International Foundation, and Bob Klein, Past International Director of Lions Clubs International and Lions' NGO Representative to the UN, to the U.S. Fund's office. They presented our president Caryl Stern with a check in the amount of $39,468.62 to fund UNICEF's innovative School-in-a-Box program.
